According to Michigan’s governor Rick Snyder, Flint’s water crisis is over. It has been reported that the amount of lead in the city’s water is below the federal limit, which means the water is safe for drinking and bathing in.

“The scientific data now proves the water system is stable and the need for bottled water has ended,”Governor Synder said in the statement on Friday. “Since Flint’s water is now well within the standards set by the federal government, we will now focus even more of our efforts on continuing with the health, education and economic development assistance needed to help move Flint forward.”

The free bottled water program was a part of a $450 million state and federal aid package. Once the current supply of bottled water is finished, the distribution centers will be closed.

Michigan State Representative Sheldon Neely disagrees with the decision and says Flint residents are hesitant to believe Synder.

“The fact is, the people of Flint don’t trust the Snyder administration or the science they pay for -– science that previously allowed our city to be poisoned,” Neeley said in a statement.

To cut back on costs, Flint, MI switched its water source from Lake Huron to the polluted Flint River in 2014.  This caused the lead to filtrate into the water from the pipes. The city switched back to Lake Huron in 2015.
