In a sit down with Cherise Nicole for theGrio, Shaunie O’Neal and Evelyn Lozada dicussed having relationships in the public eye. The two women were asked about two incidents of specific relationship drama and dysfunction like Emily B. and Fabolous and Khloe Kardashian and Tristan Thompson. See what both women had to say about these women and their own relationships below.
Evelyn on Emily B.
When it comes to cheating and domestic violence, I’m the last person to judge anybody’s relationship because you don’t really know what’s going on. It took me time to leave. I was with my fiancé for ten years and a lot happened during those ten years. And with my domestic violence incident, I left because the world knew my secret. But I don’t judge those people. And you leave those relationships when you’re ready to leave those relationships.
When it comes to Khloe [Kardashian] she just had a baby. That’s not an easy situation that she’s in. We’ve all been there. Obviously, probably not on that scale but hurt is hurt and pain is pain.
We wish them the best.
Emily B. her and I talked over social media and I was like, ‘Hey, keep your head up.’ But until you’re ready to leave that relationship, nobody can tell you to leave that relationship, even though the best thing for you to do is leave that relationship. It’s like not until it clicks here, it just is what it is. Every relationship is different. And that’s why I keep stuff private now. I’ve learned.
Shaunie: For Shaquille and I, it wasn’t an Instagram and Twitter was brand new. So thank God…it was public enough just going on a blog. But I didn’t have to deal with people’s comments directly to me. Now, I keep relationships— ‘Are you dating?’ ‘Ummm none of your business.’ I don’t need the world commenting on how I’m supposed to feel. You don’t know what’s going on inside their household. You can’t tell me to feel about my husband or boyfriend. And until, like she said, it clicks with you, who are we to judge? We don’t know what the real story is. You don’t know what’s said between the two people or done between the two people. We’re all here just watching whatever people pick up, little bits and pieces and it’s not a fair assessment of what’s going on. It really sucks that people are so invested in other people’s business like that. I’m good minding my own business. I read it. I see it. It’s great tea. But it’s really sad to see how people personally attack you and personally get all in your business.
Evelyn: And you’re already going through something. You’re dealing with your boyfriend cheating and it’s all over the place. And then you have to deal with the public. It’s not easy.
Shaunie: Then you have kids that can read and see. It’s levels of stuff you’re already going through, then you have to deal with Tanisha sitting up in her living room telling you how stupid you are.
How Shaunie caught Shaq one time.
Shaunie: “Skytell got him in trouble. Shaquille and I were on the same account but his messages would cross over to mine. So randomly, I would get his messages on my Skytell. So I would be like, ‘Oh okay, you sent the girl flowers! Really?’
I popped up on Shaquille in Vegas cuz of Skytell. I knew his whole get down. Like he had set up being with somebody. I was right at that door with my bedazzled bandana.”
Lord have mercy. Thank God Shaunie is done with that particular phase of her life. I think both women said some very profound things about relationships. The best thing is to leave but none of us on the outside can rush that process. What do you think about their comments?
